The Man Made project provides meaningful and regular timetabled groups for men at risk of suicide in Leeds.

Our project addresses social isolation by inviting men to engage in or reignite their
passion for creative digital technology and music. Technology can isolate, but can also
create common ground and a neutral, non-threatening focus for engaging isolated men,
creating music or visual digital art, and building confidence and relationships as the
group progresses. People who are disadvantaged and struggling with low mood can
lose touch with their passion, many men feel comfortable to engage in technology but it
is often a solo activity. usually an alone thing, of course if people are beginners we will
start them off. Creative digital arts and music may result in an outing, a shared
understanding, a feeling of self worth and may reignite an interest; this builds self
confidence and resilience, and develops a connection between participants.
We spend time talking to men individually as well as in group settings, building rapport
and finding interests, and over time we have found that friendships form, groups
become more self sustaining with the support of volunteers and positive mental health benefits are identified in people's daily
lives.
